“The Honorable Timothy C. Evans Scholarship” was established to honor the commitment and dedication that the Chief Judge of the Circuit Court of Cook County, Timothy C. Evans, has devoted to the Northwest Suburban Bar Association (NWSBA) and to the community of Cook County. Judge Evans’s tireless commitment to public service and his passionate pursuit of legal excellence and integrity mirror the very virtues embodied by the NWSBA and its esteemed membership.
Timothy C. Evans is Chief Judge of the Circuit Court of Cook County, one of the largest unified court systems in the world with more than 400 Judges and more than 2.4 cases filed annually. After graduating from the University of Illinois in 1965 and receiving his law degree from The John Marshall Law School in 1969, Evans embarked on a lifelong pursuit of public service. He was appointed as Assistant Corporation Council in 1969 in the City of Chicago’s Law Department and later became Deputy Commissioner of the Department of Investigations. Evans was elected to the Chicago City Council in 1973 where he represented the 4th Ward for eighteen years while continuing to maintain a private law practice. Judge Evans has served in Cook County judiciary since his election as circuit judge in 1992. During his tenure as Chief Judge, Judge Evans has innovated safe haven programs for children of parents attending or guardians attending court and has been a tireless champion of expanding opportunities for women and minorities at the court’s executive management level. He has also led the effort to open the new, state-of-the-art domestic violence courthouse in Chicago.
Like Chief Judge Evans, the NWSBA has distinguished itself for its commitment to public service. The Northwest Suburban Bar Association Foundation was established by the NWSBA to increase its charitable activities, and one such activity is the establishment of its Scholarship Program for eligible students who reside in the Northern District of Illinois, Eastern Division, and who have expressed a commitment to the highest scholastic standards. Some factors to be considered are scholastic achievement, involvement in school activities, and extra curricular activities, as well as, financial need.
The NWSBA Foundation is honored to recognize Judge Evans’ contribution to the legal community through “The Honorable Timothy C. Evans Scholarship”. Judge Evans’s example, passion, and integrity are a guiding light for the NWSBA membership and the worthy recipient of this endowment.
The deadline for the application is March 31, 2009. Scholarship recipients will be honored at NWSBA's Judges' Night on April 23, 2009.
